NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team lost two games today against LIU Post at Pelz Field in New Haven, Conn. by the scores of 4-2 and 7-3 (8 innings).
In game one, the game remained scoreless until LIU Post put up two runs in the fifth inning after a two-run home run from Alexis Gonzalez.
SCSU would score a run in the bottom half of the fourth and then tie the game in the fifth at 2-2 after
Stacy Pouliot (Ledyard, Conn.) hit a sac fly, scoring
Kelly Mitchell (Seymour, Conn.).
In the top of the seventh, LIU Post would score two runs after Nicole Hagenah got the eventual game-winning double to score two runs.
Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) got the loss for SCSU going 7.0 innings while allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
In game two, LIU Post scored four runs in the eighth inning to get the victory behind two home runs.
LIU Post went up 2-0 in the third when Hagenah had a two-run single to left field.
In the bottom of the third, the Owls stormed back with three runs to take the 3-2 lead after an RBI single from
Brittany Bucko (Wallington, N.J), a sac fly from
Alyssa Downs (Seymour, Conn.) and Kaley Marden (Fremont, Calif.) scored on an error.
Haganah would tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth after she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Going into extra innings, LIU Post took a 7-3 lead after two-run hom runs from Alexis Gonzalez and Alyson Dzierzynski, both to deep center field.
Jessica Van Alphen (Hudson, N.Y.) got the loss for SCSU going 4.1 innings while allowing five runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Yesenia Evaristo (Bethel, Conn.) earned the no decision going three innings while allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
