LOWELL, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team was swept Saturday by UMass-Lowell from River View Field in Lowell, Mass.
In game one, the Owls were defeated 5-2.
Julie Muscarella (Suffield, Conn.) and Brittany Buck (Wallington, N.J.) each had two hits for SCSU (15-13).
Alyssa Downs (Seymour, Conn.) also had two RBI.
Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) got the loss for SCSU going 6.0 innings while allowing five runs, two earned, with one walk and three strikeouts.
With the Owls leading 1-0 in the third, UMass-Lowell (12-15) scored three runs led by a two-run triple from Ariana Darcy and an RBI double from Abby Jamieson.
UMass-Lowell then made it 5-1 with two runs in the fourth after two errors by SCSU led to an RBI from Anna Crowley and Krista Mackenzie scored on an error.
In game two, Umass-Lowell was able to score early and win, 6-0.
Muscarella led SCSU with two hits.
Jessica Van Alphen (Hudson, N.Y.) got the loss for SCSU going 5.2 innings while allowing six runs, three earned, on 10 hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
The River Hawks would scored three runs in the fourth inning after Kathryn Donovan had an RBI double and Melissa King hit a two-run home run.
UMass-Lowell then made it 6-0 with three runs in the sixth after an error led to all three unearned runs.
After Yesenia Evaristo (Bethel, Conn.) took over for Van Alphen in the sixth with the bases loaded, Crowley reached on an error in the outfield to empty the bases.
