NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team was unable to catch a conference win today against Adelphi University, as the Panthers claimed a 3-1 win.
The Owls are now 1-4, 0-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Adelphi is now 3-0-1, 1-0-1 in the NE-10.
Adelphi's Olivia Czavar scored in the 16th minute and Victoria Antonino scored the last goal of the half in the 18th minute. The rest of the half was scoreless from both teams.
Senior Suzane Pires (San Paolo, Brazil) gave the Owls a quick goal right at the start of the half to put SCSU on the board. Three saves from SCSU goalie Rachael Hafer (Laurel Springs, N.J.) kept the Owls close most of the second half but a high shot to the right corner from Samantha Lanza sealed the deal for Adelphi in the 86th minute.
The Owls will be back in action on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. on the road against Franklin Pierce.
