Women's Soccer to Play Two Home Games This Week

The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team will play two home games this week.  The Owls will play American International College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in New Haven, Conn. followed by a game against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday at 5 p.m. also in New Haven, Conn. 

THIS PAST WEEK
The Owls went 0-2 in two matches last week. Both games were Northeast 10 Conference games. On Wednesday, SCSU played at home against Adelphi and lost 3-1. On Saturday they went on the road to play at Franklin Pierce and lost 2-1.

OWLS PICKED IN PRESEASON NE-10 COACHES POLL
The Owls were picked eighth in the Northeast 10 Preseason coaches poll. The Owls received 119 points.

ALL-TIME VERSUS AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
SCSU has a 11-5-1 record all time against AIC.

ALL-TIME VERSUS SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Owls  have a 7-6-3 record in their all time series versus Southern New Hampshire.

WELCOME BACK
Senior Suzane Pires is the Owls' leading returning scorer. The forward was named to the Northeast-10 Conference team as well as the All-New England team and the All-Region Team. Pires finished the year with six goals and 16 total points.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome 14 newcomers to the squad for the 2013 season - Christine Allard, Jaime Botteon, Kieran DeBiase, Samantha Emery, Camille Fantini, Rachael Hafer, Maeghan Howard, Katherine Hutton, Erica Ridella, Deanna Ryan, Alexis Schmidt, Ayanna Smith, Caroline Staudle and Alexis Wadsworth.

THE CAPTAINS
Suzane Pires and Sarah Brochu will serve as team captains for the Owls this fall.

KATIE DIDIO JOINS COACHING STAFF
Former Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer goalkeeper has joined the owls once again as an assistant coach. Didio was a four-year starter for the Owls from 2007 till the 2010 season. During that career she recorded 29 victories, which ranks third all-time at SCSU. DiDio also holds the Southern Connecticut record with 311 saves and is second with 21 career shutouts (16 solo). She also ranks fourth in goals against average.

LOOKING BACK AT 2012
The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team finished the year with an overall record of 9-6-3. The Owls just missed out on an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament, but once again qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. SCSU was ranked as high as No. 4 in the region during the course of the year.

TWO OWLS EARN ALL-REGION HONORS
Sarah Brochu and Suzane Pires were all tabbed for All-Region accolades for their play during the 2012 season. It was the second year in a row that each earned the honor.

PAIR COLLECT ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
For third year in a row, Sarah Brochu and Suzane Pires were recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play during the 2012 season. Both collected First-Team All-League honors.

TWO NAMED ALL-NEW ENGLAND
Sarah Brochu and Suzane Pires were all selected All-New England for their play during the 2012 season. It was the second year in a row that each earned the honor.

OWLS THRIVE INDIVIDUALLY IN THE CLASSROOM
From the academic standpoint, the Owls were honored with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the fourth year in a row. Sarah Brochu repeated with NE-10 Women's Soccer All-Academic Team honors. Eighteen student-athletes were also named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for posting a semester grade point average of at least 3.0.

TARCHINI NAMED TO NEWISA SENIOR BOWL
Lisamarie Tarchini was selected to play in the NEWISA Senior Bowl following the conclusion of the 2012 season

ON DECK
The Owls will play their next game against Le Moyne on the road on Wednesday, October 2.
