Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Assumption in its regular season finale on Wednesday evening at Jess Dow Field. The Greyhounds used to second half goals to improve to a conference-best mark of 11-2 (12-3 overall), while the Owls drop to 10-5-1 overall (9-4-1 NE-10).
Assumption held an 8-3 shots advantage through the opening half, but was unable to score despite some quality scoring chances. In the 14
th minute, Paige Radomski had an open shot from in the box sail just over the crossbar. Three minutes later, Kelsey Imondi let go a shot that was tipped up and off the crossbar sophomore goalkeeper
Erica Ridella (Warwick, N.Y.). The Owls countered in the 22
nd minute when sophomore
Caroline Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y.) had a break-away shot stopped from close-range by Hounds' goalkeeper Rachel Edgin.
In the second half, Assumption put the game out of reach by grabbing two goals in a span of 2:06. In the 63
rd minute, Imondi took a centering pass that had been tipped by Ridella in front, and buried it into the top right corner to give the Hounds the 1-0 advantage.
Assumption quickly added an insurance goal in the 65
th minute as Emily Hill won a ball in the middle of the field and beat Ridella on a clean break-in with a shot high in the middle of the net to up the Hounds' lead to 2-0.
For the game, the Greyhounds amassed 22 total shots, to the Owls four. Ridella made 10 saves for SCSU, while Edgin stopped all three shots on net that she faced for Assumption.
