Box Score RINDGE, N.H. - The No. 7 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team dropped it's second straight game Friday night at Franklin Pierce, 2-1. The difference came in the 65th minute when Andrew LaVoie took David Lima's pass off the back line and scored his first goal of the year.
The Owls round out the regular season going 13-3 overall and 10-3 in the NE-10. Â The Ravens move to 9-6-1 overall and 7-5-1 in conference. Â
The scoring started at 12:37 when Marius Preber took in a long ball down the right side and put it past freshman keeper
Noah Varonier (Miller Place, N.Y.). Â Varonier made two saves in the game. Â
Daniel Ruiz (Stamford, Conn.) answered less than four minutes later when he fired a shot from 30 yards out inside the right post to tie it up at one. Â It was his fourth goal of the year. Â
The game remained tied until LaVoie's goal twenty minutes into the second half.
The stats for both teams are very similar. Â Both shots and shots on goal are the same at 11 and four, respectively. Â Both teams had two fouls, but Franklin Pierce outdid the Owls in corner kicks, 5-1.Â
The most recent NCAA regional poll - the poll used to determine what schools get selected to the national tournament - has Southern Connecticut tabbed as the No. 1 team in the region. Â That poll came out on Wednesday, one day after the men's soccer team lost to Adelphi.
