Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State women's soccer team lost a 2-1 doube-overtime heartbreaker to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament. Junior Kaycee Pereira scored for the Ravens in the 104th minute on a shot from 25 yards out for the game's golden goal. Freshman Victoria Buonanni (Durham, Conn.) scored her fourth goal of the year for the Owls in the defeat. Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Ridella (Warwick, N.Y.) made seven saves for the Owls. Following the loss, the Owls are 10-6-1 (9-4-1 NE-10), while the Ravens improve to 11-5-1 (8-5-1 NE-10).

The Ravens controlled the flow of play in the first half as both teams failed to find the back of the net. However, the best scoring chance of the half came from the Owls. In the 39th minute, freshman Victoria Conde took a pass down the left sideline and let go a shot from 15 yard out that beat Ravens goalkeeper Casey Cook high, but rang off the crossbar.

In the second half, the Ravens broke through for the match's first score in the 57th minute. Talita Pereira scored directly off a free kick, sending a high shot past Ridella to give FPU a 1-0 lead.

The Owls then turned up the pressure and nearly tied it nine minutes later. A shot from inside the box by freshman Betti Worth (Bolton, England) was stopped by Cook and Buonanni fired the rebound just wide of the left post.

In the 84th minute, the Owls were able to draw even as Buonanni ignited the Owls with a bullet from 25 yards out into the top right corner of the net to tie the match at 1-1.

The game stayed tied through the end of regulation and through the first overtime before the Ravens scored the golden goal. Pereira dribbled the ball int the middle of the field and let go a shot from 25 yards out that sailed over the outstretched hands of Ridella and into the top of the net, sending the Ravens to Friday's Northeat-10 semifinals.
