Owls Win 1-0 Shutout in Home Opener

Box Score

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – A ninth minute goal from sophomore Caroline Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y.) lifted the Southern Connecticut State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Owls improve to 2-3 (1-2 NE-10), while the Ravens drop to 2-2-1 (0-2-1 NE-10).

Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Ridella (Warwick, N.Y.) recoded her first career shutout in goal, stopping all nine shots she faced.

The Owls wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as sophomore Kieran DeBiase (Prospect, Conn.) headed a ball into the box that deflected off the keeper and right to Staudle, who grabbed the loose ball behind the keeper and put it in the back of the net. The marker was Staudle's and DeBiase's first points of the season.

Overall, Franklin Pierce held a 9-6 shots on goal advantage in the contest. Goalkeeper Casey Cook made five saves for the Ravens.

The Owls return to action on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. when they travel to American Int'l for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup. Live stats and live video will be available.
