SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Kieran DeBiase (Prospect, Conn.) scored in the 80^th minute to lift the Southern Connecticut State women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over American Int'l on Tuesday evening. With the victory, the Owls win their second in a row and improve to 3-3 (2-2 NE-10), while the Yellow Jackets slip to 0-5-1 (0-3-1 NE-10).

The Yellow Jackets put three shots on goal over the first 21 minutes, but sophomore Erica Ridella (Warwick, N.Y.) was there to stop all three, keeping the game scoreless. The Owls countered by putting three shots on net over the final four minutes of the first half, including a shot by senior Bryana Poulin (Webster, Mass.) that was saved as time expired.

AIC got the scoring started early in the second half, as junior Ophelie Brevet took a feed from Alyssa Werbicki and beat Ridella to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 advantage.

In the 72^nd minute, the Owls grabbed the equalizer after a Poulin corner kick. Poulin centered the kick into the box where it was headed in point-blank by sophomore Caroline Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y.). The marker was Staudle's second goal of the season, and second in as many games.

Eight minutes later, the Owls grabbed a 2-1 lead when DeBiase spun around a defender and let loose an open shot into the far right corner of the net for her first goal of the season.

Over the game's final 10 minutes, American Int'l pushed to tie the game, getting off four shots. Ridella turned away two shots in the final three minutes, including a shot from Brittany Barry with two seconds left on the clock to preserve the win.

Overall, Ridella made seven saves to pick up her third victory of the season.
