Click here to view complete resultsSYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State men's swimming and diving team topped Le Moyne in a road meet on Saturday by a score of 121-113 in the team's final meet prior to the Northeast-10 Championships.
Senior
Marco Minnocci (Hamden, Conn.) picked up the team's first win of the afternoon in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:35.49. He was followed closely behind by fellow teammate, senior
Nick Blade (Seymour, Conn.), who's time of 10:49.19 was good enough for second place.
Senior
Daniel Gallup (Milford, Conn.) then followed with a first place finish of his own in the 200 yard freestyle, touching in 1:50.09. Freshman
Brandon Beaudoin (Scotia, N.Y.) (3rd/1:51.41) and junior
Travis Burke (Downington, Pa.) (4th/1:53.77) also earned team points in the event.
Freshman
Tyler Vander Vos (South Windsor, Conn.) added a win in the 50 yard freestyle, winning the sprint in 22.08 seconds to pick up nine team points. Sophomore
Raymond Snyder (Waterbury, Conn.) finished third in 22.85 seconds to pick up three team points.
Sophomore
Dylan Swanepoel (Milford, Conn.) won the 100 yard butterfly by touching in 53.41 seconds, earning nine team points. Junior
Christopher Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) also picked up three team points for his third place finish of 55.61 seconds.
A trio of Owls swept the top three spots in the 100 yard freestyle. Sophomore
Tyler Dietter (North Haven, Conn.) took the top spot with a finish of 48.49 seconds. His teammates, junior
Brendan Murphy (Watertown, Conn.) took second place in 49.49 seconds, and senior
Jared Thurston (Wallingford, Conn.) rounded out the top three with a time of 49.57.
The Owls also took the top three spots in the next event, as Snyder (1st/55.63), Curtin (2nd/55.81) and Vander Vos (3rd/56.01) combined to pick up 16 team points.
Another trio of Owls -
Louis Geist (2nd/2:02.83), Swanepoel (3rd/2:05.38) and junior Matt Demirs (Oakville, Conn.) (4th/2:15.87) all earned team points in the 200 yard IM.
Sophomore diver
Stephen McCusker (Waterbury, Conn.) and freshman Salim Lemond (Oxford, Conn.) earned 14 team points by finishing second and third, respectively, in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events.
The 200 yard medley relay team of Vander Vos, Beaudoin, Snyder and Murphy combined for a second place finish of 1:40.26.
Freshman Lucas Fannucci (Malvern, Pa.) (5:03.49), Minnocci (5:13.51), and Blade (5:18.01) all earned team points with strong second, third and fourth place finishes, respectively in the 500 yard freestyle.
With the regular season now in the books, the Owls will return to action when they host the Northeast-10 Championships at Hutchinson Natatorium from February 5-8. Action on Thursday, Feb. 5 begins at 5 p.m.
