This was the first time the two teams faced each other since meeting in the NCAA Tournament last year. The Warriors knocked the Owls out of the tournament by a score of 1-0.
BEATING NO. 15 MERRIMACKChae Brangman scored both goals for the Owls in the win over the Warriors. He was the recipient of a pass from Louis Greenway-Tambini as he was about 10 yards away from the goal and fired it past Merrimack's keeper Lucas Rezende. Merrimack responded right before the half with a goal by Augusto Silva, but Brangman came back in the 74th minute, drawing a foul on Rezende and earning a penalty kick, which he scored to give the Owls a 2-1 lead and win.
CONFERENCE STANDINGSSouthern Conn. is now 5-1-1 in the NE-10, tied for second with Adelphi. The Owls have yet to play the other three teams currently in the top four: Southern New Hampshire, Adelphi and Bentley.
OWLS OWN CONFERENCE AWARDSChae Brangman has been named NE-10 Player of the Week for his efforts in the win over No. 15 Merrimack. Brangman scored both goals of the game for the Owls, including the game winning penalty kick in the 74th minute. Brangman gets the honors a week after Louis Greenway-Tambini earned the award with two goals against Saint Anselm.
Weens Simon also won Rookie of the Week last week; he scored his first collegiate goal against AIC.
THIS WEEKSouthern Connecticut plays two away games this week. They travel to Waltham, Mass. on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. to take on Bentley, which is fourth in the conference with a 4-3 record. Then on Saturday, they will head up to Albany, N.Y. to face Saint Rose at 1 p.m.
SCOUTING BENTLEYThe Falcons are 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the NE-10. They have won their last two games at Saint Rose 2-0 and vs. Le Moyne 2-1. The Falcons and Owls share just two common opponents thus far: Merrimack and Le Moyne. Southern Connecticut is 2-0 against those teams, while Bentley is 1-1. The Falcons score an average of 1.2 goals per game and are led by a collection of players including Nick Hoffman, who leads the team with three goals, and Scott Levy, Evan Ryan and Forrest Scaringe, who each have two goals. Their keeper, Jack Blatchford, has saved 35 of 47 shots faced, good for a save percentage of 74.5-percent.
ALL-TIME vs. BENTLEYThe Owls are 22-2-2 all-time against Bentley, including wins in their last two games.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSEAs on Monday, the Golden Knights are 4-5-1 and 3-3-1 in the conference. They will play New Haven on Tuesday before hosting the Owls this Saturday. Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut share three common opponents as of Monday: Merrimack, Saint Anselm and Le Moyne. The Owls are 3-0 against those teams; Saint Rose is 2-0-1, tying Merrimack. As of Monday, the Golden Knights have lost three straight and are 0-3-1 in their last four. Romaine Williamson is the leading goal scorer for Saint Rose with six goals, tied for second in the conference. Behind him is Joshua Hanif with four goals. Colan Balkwell is the expected keeper for the Golden Knights; he has allowed ten goals on 48 shots, good for a save percentage of 79.2-percent.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT ROSEThe Owls are 13-0-0 all-time against the Golden Knights, winning each of the last two matchups 1-0 in overtime.
THE PRESEASON NE-10 COACHES POLLSCSU was picked second in the NE-10 preseason coaches poll. The Owls received 154 points and one first place vote out of 14.

LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASONThe Owls finished 2014 with a 15-5 record and a No. 17 national ranking in the NSCAA poll. SCSU reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and before that, qualified for the finals of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls averaged just over two goals per game, with

Chae Brangman. Brangman finished second on the team last year with six goals. The next highest returning scorers are Brandon Rowlinson and
Ignacio Navarro, who each scored two goals last year.
