Weens Simon scored their first goals of the year in what ended up being a 2-2 tie. The team returned home to play Saint Anselm on Saturday and the offense exploded for five goals in the victory, including two by Louis Greenway-Tambini.
CONFERENCE STANDINGSWith the win against Saint Anselm, the Owls earn their fourth conference win, tying them with Adelphi for second in the conference behind Southern New Hampshire, which is 6-0.
LOUIE, LOUIELouis Greenway-Tambini continues to put up big offensive numbers for the Owls. The two goals he scored against Saint Anselm were his sixth and seventh on the year, which leads the NE-10.Â
NE-10 WEEKLY HONORSTwo Owls were named Northeast-10 Conference Players of the Week.Â

Weens Simon earned Rookie of the Week honors for scoring the first goal of his collegiate career against AIC. He rang a shot off the post that came right back to him which he was able to put in the back of the net.
• Louis Greenway-Tambini was named Player of the Week for scoring two goals in the 5-1 win over Saint Anselm.Â
THIS WEEKSouthern Connecticut has only one game this week. The Owls will travel to North Andover, Mass. to take on Merrimack in a pivotal conference matchup on Saturday.Â
SCOUTING MERRIMACKThe last time these two teams played, Augusto Silva ended the Owls' season in the NCAA Tournament. The Warriors began this season 7-0 before losing to Le Moyne and tying their last two games against Saint Rise and Adelphi. The Owls and Warriors have played five common opponents - SCSU is 2-2-1 in those games, Merrimack is 4-1. The Warriors average over 2.5 goals per game, led by Silva who has six goals. Joseph Briers and Julio Leon Garcia have three goals each, four other players have two goals and six more players have one goal. They are led in net by Lucas Rezende, who has allowed 11 goals on 30 shots - the same amount of goals allowed by
Noah Varonier. Merrimack was ranked #11 in the NSCAA National Soccer Rankings last week before their two ties. The new rankings are released every Tuesday.
ALL-TIME vs. MERRIMACKThe Owls are 12-5-1 all-time against the Warriors. Last year, the teams faced each other twice - the Owls won the regular season matchup, but the Warriors ended Southern Connecticut's season in the NCAA Tournament.

Markus Jacobsen is redshirting this year after holding a tie in goals last year with
Chae Brangman. Filling in for him at the forward spot has been a combination of Brangman, Louis Greenway-Tambini, and
Sabri Akter. Brangman and Greenway-Tambini have scored all three goals for the Owls this season.
THE PRESEASON NE-10 COACHES POLLSCSU was picked second in the NE-10 preseason coaches poll. Â The Owls received 154 points and one first place vote out of 14.

LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASONThe Owls finished 2014 with a 15-5 record and a No. 17 national ranking in the NSCAA poll. SCSU reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and before that, qualified for the finals of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls averaged just over two goals per game, with
Daquan King and
Markus Jacobsenleading the team with 10 goals each. Defense was the Owls' strength. Led by NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year
Sebastian Brems, they allowed 1.16 goals per game. Freshman keeper
Noah Varonier was a stud in net for the Owls, saving 71-percent of the shots he faced.
THE CAPTAINHead coach
Tom Lang announced that redshirt senior
Tyler Naef will captain the Owls this fall. This will mark the second straight year that Naef will serve as a team captain.
SCORING PUNCH COMING BACKSouthern Connecticut will see two of its top five scorers from last season return -
Markus Jacobsen and
Chae Brangman. Brangman finished second on the team last year with six goals. The next highest returning scorers are Brandon Rowlinson and
Ignacio Navarro, who each scored two goals last year.
