Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team lost to No. 12 Adelphi 1-0 in the first round of the NE-10 Tournament Tuesday evening.
In an offensive struggle, the Panthers outshot the Owls nine to five, but seven of Adelphi's nine shots came in the final 15 minutes.
Jeanine Nunez scored in the 47th minute on a header from Kelsey Simpson.
Erica Ridella (Warwick, N.Y.) made three saves in the loss.
The Owls had difficulty getting through the Panther defense.
Victoria Conde (Madrid, Spain) and
Caroline Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y.) led the team with two shots each. Southern did not manage a shot on goal.
Staudle had a chance to score in the 88th minute on a long ball but the defense collapsed on her as she corralled it in the box.
Staudle and Conde finish the season as the team leaders in goals with seven. They are both tied for ninth in the conference in goals.
Kieran DeBiase (Prospect, Conn.) leads the team with five assists, which is tied for seventh in the conference. Ridella finishes the season with six wins and 72 saves, good for eighth and seventh in the conference, respectively.
