Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team picked up its first win of the year on Saturday afternoon, a 3-2 win over Assumption.
With the win, the Owls move to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds fall to 2-1 and 0-1.
Southern Connecticut fell behind in the fifth minute as Assumption's Paige Radomski scored her first goal of the year. It came from about 30 yards out and went just above
Erica Ridella (Warwick, N.Y.) into the top left corner of the net.
Victoria Buonanni (Durham, Conn.) responded with her first goal of the year in the 28
th minute with a shot from the right side of the field to the near post. That sent the teams into the half tied at one.
The Owls broke the tie in the 71
st minute with a set piece goal from
Victoria Conde (Madrid, Spain) from about 35 yards out that went squeezed just above the head of Greyhound keeper Emily Kuzma and under the crossbar. Southern Connecticut added an insurance goal in the 76
th by
Caroline Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y.). She drew Kuzma out of the net and chipped it over her head for her second goal of the season. As fate would have it, they would need that goal as Assumption's Amanda Arnold scored with 10 seconds left to bring the score to 3-2.
The women's team is back in action on Wednesday, September 16 at 4 p.m. when they travel to Saint Anselm.
