Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. -
Caroline Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y.) scored her third and fourth goals on the year and
Christine Allard (South Windsor, Conn.) added her first as Southern Connecticut State University defeated Franklin Pierce 3-2 in a conference matchup.
With the win, the Owls are now 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the NE-10, while the Ravens fall to 4-2 and 2-2 in the conference.
Southern Connecticut scored all three of their goals in a six minute span, starting in the 16th minute.
Victoria Conde's (Madrid, Spain) shot was saved by the Ravens' goalkeeper, Katie Weldon, but the rebound went right to Staudle and she put it in the back of the net.
Two minutes later,
Victoria Buonanni (Durham, Conn.) passed the ball out in front of Staudle which she headed in to put the Owls up 2-0.
Just three minutes after that, Allard scored indirectly off a corner kick. She initially headed it in towards the goal, but it was partially cleared out by the Franklin Pierce defense. Allard was able to regain posession in the box, however, and ripped a shot from six yards out over Weldon's head. Allard took four shots in this game - she had none coming into tonight.
The Ravens were able to get on the board before halftime, though. Anna Holtschlag scored her first goal of the year, as she was positioned in front of the net and was able to get the ball past
Erica Ridella (Warwick, N.Y.), who made five saves in the win.
Franklin Pierce added another goal in the 74th minute on a penalty kick by Nathalia da Silva, but the Owls held them off after that to secure the conference win.
Southern Connecticut returns to action next Saturday when they host crosstown rival New Haven at 6 p.m.
