Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Louis Greenway-Tambini (Nottingham, England) scored two goals including the game-winner to propel Southern Connecticut State University to a 3-2 overtime win over Franklin Pierce.
With the win, the Owls are now 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the NE-10, while the Ravens fall to 3-3-1 and 1-2-1 in the conference.
Tied at two in the 92nd minute, Greenway-Tambini took a pass from
Chae Brangman (St. George's, Bermuda) as he was entering the box. With two defenders in front of him, he put the ball through the legs of one defender and worked his way around him before shooting the ball to the left of the Franklin Pierce keeper, Jordan LeGuyader. It was his fifth goal of the year.
Greenway-Tambini began the scoring in the 22nd minute. The ball was deflected toward him while he was at the top of the box. He got the ball, crossed over a defender, and shot the ball with his left foot to the right of LeGuyader.
The score would remain 1-0 through the half, until the 58th minute. The Ravens used the long ball to their advantage, as a through pass came in from midfield to George Levantakis, who was running up the left side of the field. He caught up to the ball in the box and scored on
Noah Varonier (Miller Place, N.Y.), who made five saves.
In the 62nd minute, Quincy Appah took a cross from Marius Preber in the middle of the box right in front of Varonier and fired a scorching shot to the top left corner of the net that Varonier had no chance at saving.
Down 2-1 and staring at a loss,
Sabri Akter (Unionville, Conn.) was able to score his first goal of the year and keep the Owls' hopes up. Greenway-Tambini fielded a bouncing ball past midfield that was punted by Varonier. With as many as four defenders draped around him, he worked his way upfield and passed to
Christian Samaniego (Toronto, Ontario), who had Akter wide open to his left. Akter one-timed the pass to Leguyader's left to tie the score at two with under three minutes remaining in regulation.
Southern Connecticut's next opponent is American International. The Owls will travel to Springfield, Mass. for the game on Tuesday, September 29 at 7 p.m.
