Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team drew its first tie of the year Tuesday night against AIC by a final score of 2-2.
The Owls are now 4-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets are 3-3-2 and 1-2-2.
AIC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 21 minutes, as Ed Sharman and Alec Cerquiera were able to score on
Noah Varonier (Miller Place, N.Y.). The Yellow Jackets took 14 shots in the game, but only three of them were on goal.
Sean Black (London, England) put the Owls on the board in the 28th minute with his first goal of the year.
Christian Samaniego (Toronto, Ontario) crossed in a corner kick to the far post where Black headed it into the back of the net. Three minutes later, freshman
Weens Simon (Fort Myers, Fla.) scored his first goal of the season off a rebound when his shot off the right post came right back to him. Simon's goal tied the game at two, where it would stay through two overtime periods.
Southern Connecticut ended the game with 17 total shots, seven of them on goal, including a chance in overtime by
Chae Brangman (St. George's, Bermuda) that was saved by the diving right hand of AIC goalkeeper Sebastian Tamayo. They also took eight corner kicks in the game, while AIC took five.
The Owls return to action this Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Saint Anselm.
