Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team split a pair of games on Wednesday against St. Thomas Aquinas and Eckerd College. The Owls defeated STAC 3-1 and fell to Eckerd 3-0.

After Wednesday, SCSU stands at 1-3 overall, while STAC falls to 4-7 and Eckerd moves to 15-11-1.

The Owls' game against Eckerd was a tight one throughout - both teams were held scoreless until the top of the 7th. Kaleigh Floyd, the second batter of the inning, singled back to the pitcher and Kaycie Duncan reached base on a fielder's choice. Floyd was safe at second thanks to a throwing error. A sacrifice fly moved Floyd to third and a stolen base got Duncan to second, and they both scored when Carrie Shere struck a triple to right-center field. Shere would go on to score on a wild pitch. All three runs given up by Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) were unearned. The Owls went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh.

Dolloff pitched the final two innings for the Owls. Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) started the game and gave up four hits and struck out four in five innings. Freshman Catherine Ursillo (Bergenfield, N.J.) went 1-for-3 in the game. She is now batting .375 on the year.
