Box Score 2 EASTON, Mass. -
Lauren Yaffa (Manchester, Conn.) and
Victoria Ceballos (Bridgeport, Conn.) both hit their first home runs of the year in game one against Stonehill on Monday afternoon, but the Southern Connecticut State University softball team dropped a pair of games to the Skyhawks, 6-4 and 10-4.
Heather Jackson (Saunderstown, R.I.) and
Arianne Tedeschi (Deer Park, N.Y.) both picked up two RBI in game two.
The Owls are now 8-23 overall and 1-12 in the conference. Stonehill is 15-11 and 11-3.
Ceballos' solo shot got Southern Connecticut to within one run in the top of the third inning. Stonehill picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead, but Yaffa came through with a three run homer to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Stonehill's Michelle Carbone, who is among the conference leaders in batting average and slugging percentage, hit a two run home run in the bottom of the seventh to get the win.
All four of the Owls' runs in game two came in the fourth inning. The bases were loaded with two outs when Jackson doubled to left field, scoring
Samantha Groskritz (Granby, Conn.) and Ceballos and moving Yaffa to third. Tedeschi then plated both Yaffa and Jackson with a single up the middle. That gave SCSU a 4-3 lead.
Stonehill would regain the lead in the bottom half of the fourth as they manufactured six runs on five hits and two errors. They added another run in the sixth inning.
Southern Connecticut returns to action on Tuesday when they host Saint Rose at Pelz Field at 3 and 5 p.m.
