LOOKING TO KEEP IT GOING
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team claimed a 3-1 win over Saint Rose in the opening round of the tournament and now moves on to face No. 18 Merrimack in the semifinals of the NE10 Tournament on Friday, with the game to start at 7 p.m. SCSU is the No. 3 seed in the NE10 Tournament, while the Warriors are the No. 2 seed.
ALL-TIME VS. MERRIMACK
The Owls lead the all-time series against the Warriors, 13-6-1. These teams last met back on Oct. 21 and were both nationally ranked at the time. In that game, the Owls came away with a 2-1 win at Merrimack behind goals from
Lukas Szymecki and
Sabri Akter.

THE NE10 TOURNAMENT
SCSU is 19-15 all-time in the NE10 Tournament, with one title (2007) and five runner-up finishes.
IN THE NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
Southern Connecticut was No. 3 in this week's NCAA Regional rankings, the third rankings of the 2017 season. The Owls were No. 3 in the first poll and moved up a spot in the second poll. The rankings are used to determine NCAA Tournament selection.
IN THE UNITED SOCCER COACHES NATIONAL POLL
The Owls received votes in last week's United Soccer Coaches National poll. SCSU also received votes back on Oct. 4 before moving to No. 24 on Oct. 11, No. 23 on Oct. 18 and No. 22 on Oct. 25.
SIX OWLS EARN YEAR-END HONORS FROM NE10
A total of six Owls were recognized with year-end honors from the NE10, in an announcement that was made on Thursday.
Nicolas Colodrero was selected as the league's Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning First-Team laurels with teammate Louis Greenway-Tambini.
- Senior
Noah Varonier earned a spot on the Second-Team after backstopping the Owls to 11 wins thus far and seven shutouts.
- Freshmen Ignasi Cererols and
Kevin Van der Pol were tabbed with Third-Team honors. Each was also named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team along with Colodrero and
Sebastian Jarlenas.
GREENWAY-TAMBINI ENTERING ELITE COMPANY
With his 33 points thus far on the year, senior Louis Greenway-Tambini is the first Owl to have at least 33 points in a season since Colin Jackson posted the same total back during the 2006 campaign. The last Owl to post at least 35 points in a season was Usiel Vazquez, who hit that number in 2004. Greenway Tambini's 30 career goals are also the 10th best figure in school history.
OWLS RANK NO. 4 IN UNITED SOCCER COACHES REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team is ranked No. 4 in this week's United Soccer Coaches East Region poll.
ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT RELEASES NEW LOGO
In conjunction with the 2017 Homecoming Weekend festivities, the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department announced a redesign of its Owl logo, effective Oct. 21, 2017. SCSU partnered with Phoenix Design Works of Maplewood, New Jersey for the development of the new athletics logos.
CAREER YEAR FOR GREENWAY-TAMBINI
As the 2017 season winds down for Louis Greenway-Tambini, the senior leads his team in all statistical categories and hit career highs in assists (5), goals (14) and points (33).
VARONIER NAMED NE10 GOALIE OF THE WEEK
For the third time this year,
Noah Varonier was named the NE10 Goalie of the Week, in an announcement made on Oct. 30. Varonier closed the regular season with back-to-back shutouts against Saint Rose and Saint Anselm to boost his season total to seven.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Several key players for the Owls are
Louis Greenway Tambini who has 14 goals and five assists on the year, putting him at a career high 33 points, goalie
Noah Varonier who has recorded 75 saves on the year and seven shutouts and
James Foster who is second on the team in points so far this year.
GREENWAY-TAMBINI STAYS HOT
The senior had two goals in the NE10 win over Saint Rose to put him at 14 goals on the year. He leads his team in all statistical categories with an average of 1.8 points a game and is having the best statistical season of his collegiate career.
FOSTER SHINES FOR OWLS
Sophomore
James Foster recorded a goal and an assist against Le Moyne and No. 9 Merrimack. The assist came against No. 9 Merrimack on the game-winning goal.
CEREROLS SCORES FIRST CAREER GOAL
Freshman
Ignasi Cererols recorded the first collegiate goal of his career against UNH off a penalty kick to help the Owls win the game.
GREENWAY-TAMBINI EARNS NE10 WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Louis Greenway Tambini was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll after recording two goals and three assists against Bridgeport and LIU Post.
OWLS START OFF ON A HIGH
With the Owls' win against Mercy, they improved to 34-9-2 all-time in season openers. Senior
Louis Greenway Tambini had the game-winning goal that was assisted by
Ignacio Navarro to give the Owls the first win of the 2017 campaign.
CAPTAINS EARN WEEKLY HONORS
Noah Varonier was awarded Goalie of the Week honors for his play in the Owls' home opener against Mercy. He recorded four saves in the win for his first shutout of the 2017 campaign. Louis Greenway-Tambini, meanwhile was named to the weekly honor roll after he scored the game-winning goal for the Owls in the 1-0 victory over Mercy.

RETURNING OWLS
The Owls have 14 returning players from the 2016 campaign. In addition, the Owls returning field players accounted for 51 percent of the goals from last year, including six tallies from All-Conference pick
Louis Greenway Tambini.
VARONIER KEY TO OWLS DEFENSE
Senior
Noah Varonier started all 17 games for the Owls in his junior year. He posted a 1.44 GAA last season and is a three-year starter for the Owls.
PETKE NAMED REAL SALT LAKE HEAD COACH
Former Southern Connecticut State University All-American and 2017 SCSU Hall of Fame inductee Mike Petke was named head coach for Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer.
