CLERMONT, Fla. –
Victoria Ceballos (Bridgeport, Conn.) pitched a complete game shutout as the Southern Connecticut State University softball team defeated the University of Minnesota-Crookston, 8-0 on Monday. The Owls later fell to Quincy University, 4-3, to round out day two action in Florida.

VS. MINNESOTA-CROOKSTON
- Senior
Jaime Conklin (Falls Village, Conn.) led the Owls offense going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Freshman
Cailey Botteon (Moodus, Conn.) chipped in one RBI and one run scored while senior
Heather Jackson (Saunderstown, R.I.) went 1-for-2 with a RBI.
- The Owls struck first in the first when
Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) walked. Conklin then reached on an error by the shortstop, and Buscetto advanced to third base in the process. Conklin stole second, while simultaneously Buscetto stole home to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
Delany Turner (Leesburg, Va.) then reached on an error to score Conklin for a 2-0 lead.
- SCSU added another run in the fourth inning when Botteon scored off a Buscetto single to center field.
- Southern added three more runs in the fifth when Botteon reached first on a fielder's choice and
Jayden Delaporta (Mystic, Conn.) and Turner scored on the play. After Jackson singled, Botteon scored to cap off the Owls' scoring in the inning.
- The bottom of the sixth inning saw the Owls tack on two more runs. Conklin scored off a Turner single to left field and then
Kailey Westington (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored off a fielding error by the third baseman to end the game.
- Ceballos pitched all six innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven to complete the shutout.
VS. QUINCY
- Quincy struck first in the first inning with a pair of runs for an early 2-0 lead.
- The Owls counterattacked with three runs in the third inning to take the lead. Buscetto drove in Maria Zecena (Stamford, Conn.) with a fielders' choice to cut Quincy's lead in half. Later in the inning, McIntosh hit a sacrifice fly to score Jackson, and Buscetto never broke stride and came all the way around from second base to score and give the Owls a 3-2 lead.
- SCSU was one out away from a sweep on the day, but Quincy pushed across two runs to walk off with the win.

The Owls continue action in the Sunshine State on March 14 when they face Saint Thomas Aquinas and Lock Haven University at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
