Jazmyn Martinez earned her first collegiate win in the circle and sophomore
Sara Buscetto knocked in the game-winning run to lift the Southern Connecticut State University softball squad past Bentley in game two of today's doubleheader, 6-4. The Falcons took game one, 12-8 in extra innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) came to play in the Owls doubleheader home opener against Bentley as she opened the scoring in the first inning when she put the wheels on to steal home on a wild pitch.
- Southern maintained a one run lead through the fourth inning until Bentley jumped on the board after scoring on a passed ball.
Victoria Ceballos (Bridgeport, Conn.) hit a sac fly to right field with
BryAnna McIntosh (Cheshire, Conn.) scoring on the tag.
- Bentley added one run in the fifth to tie it up, 2-2. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Falcons found a groove with their offense and tallied three runs. The Owls counterattacked with three runs of their own to tie the game at five to force extra innings.
- The eighth inning went scoreless for both teams. However, Bentley found an offensive groove in the ninth inning where they rallied to score seven runs and led the Owls 12-5. Southern was able to snatch three runs, but fell in game one of today's doubleheader, 12-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams jumped on the board in the first inning where they collect two runs apiece. Both Owls runs were scored with the bases loaded and the batter being hit by the pitch.
- Turner's double in the second inning scored
Lauryn Zubia (San Fernando, Calif.) to give the Owls a 3-2 lead. Bentley capitalized after freshman Lea Thompson knocked a RBI double down the left field line to score two and take the lead, 4-3.
- Buscetto came up big in the third inning as she blasted a RBI single to score Botteon and Delaporta to give the Owls a 5-4 lead. The sixth inning saw Turner add an insurance run as she scored Buscetto with a RBI single.
- Freshman
Jazmyn Martinez (Middletown, N.Y.), who collected her first collegiate win in the circle, pitched a complete game and was able to ward off the Bentley offense to notch Owls first home win of the 2018 season.
UP NEXT
The Owls return to action tomorrow, March 25, at home against Stonehill. The first game is slated to begin at noon.
