The Southern Connecticut State University gymnastic team's meet at Brown University, originally scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 20 has been moved to Monday, Jan. 21 at the Pizzitola Sports Center at 7 p.m.
THEIR LAST TIME OUT
- Despite a fourth-place finish in University of Bridgeport's quad meet, the Southern Connecticut State University gymnastic's team put together the best season-opening score, 190.275, in program history as they opened the year against the Purple Knights, Rutgers and Yale.
- Freshman Hannah Stahlbrodt (Cicero, N.Y.) led the Owls with a 37.875 all-around score, which was good for fifth among the four-team field. Stahlbrodt led the Owls in three of the four events (floor, vault and beam) while Tiffany Coleman (Milford, Conn.) led SCSU in the vault.
- Freshman Cassidy Girolamo (Newington, Conn.) finished among the Owls' top scorers in the floor, vault and beam while sophomore Jordan Peloquin (Greenville, R.I.) finished in the top three for the Owls in both events (floor and beam) that she competed in.
TIFFANY COLEMAN NAMED ECAC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
- Southern Connecticut State University women's gymnastics senior Tiffany Coleman (Milford, Conn.) was named the ECAC Gymnastics Specialist of the Week, as announced on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019.
- Coleman competed for the first time since the 2017 season.
- Last year, Coleman suffered what should have been a career-ending injury, but rehabilitated in less than 15 months to get back into competition.
- Coleman competed in just one event at this past weekend's quad meet at the University of Bridgeport that included Rutgers and Yale. In the second rotation of the event, Coleman went to action in the Vault event, posting a team-best 9.700 that put her in 10th place out of almost 100 competitors.
HANNAH STAHLBRODT
- Competing in her first collegiate meet at the University of Bridgeport's quad meet that also featured Rutgers and Yale, freshman Hannah Stahlbrodt scored in three of the four events in which she competed, posting team-highs in the bars (9.70), beam (9.675) and floor (9.750) on her way to a all-around score of 37.875, which was good for fifth place.
WELCOME TO THE PROGRAM!
- A sophomore transfer from Bowling Green State, Jordan Peloquin made an immediate impact for Southern Connecticut in her first collegiate competition at Bridgeport's quad meet with Rutgers and Yale. Peloquin posted a 9.725 for a sixth-place finish in the floor event before turning in her second scoring performance with a 9.550 in the beam.
GATEWOOD SHINES IN FINAL EVENT
- At Bridgeport's quad meet with Rutgers and Yale, sophomore Morgan Gatewood waiting until the final rotation of the event to compete in the beam where she tied teammate Hannah Stahlbrodt with a team-best 9.675, which also served as her second-best score all-time and good for a tie of 8th place.
TEAM NOTES
- At Bridgeport's quad meet, Stahlbrodt was the only Owl to compete in all four events, posting team-highs in the bars (9.700) and floor (9.750), which contributed to a 37.875 all-around score that placed her fifth among all competitors.
- Cassidey Girolamo and Alexandra Lesperance competed in three events, with both sitting out the beam event. Girolamo posted a 9.625 in the vault, placing her just behind Stahlbrodt, while Lesperance was close-behind in the vault (9.575) and the floor (9.600).
- The Owls highest-scoring combined score came in the vault (47.975), with five of the six competitors posting a 9.5 or higher, while the floor event (47.875) showcased all six Owls at 9.375 or higher.
UP NEXT
Following its matchup against Brown, the Owls will host Brockport and Rhode Island College on Sunday, Jan. 27 for its first of two home meets at the James Moore Field House on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University.
