Amanda Dustin's Second-Half Goal Lifts Women's Soccer To 1-0 Upset Of Stonehill In NE10 Quarters

Box Score EASTON, Mass - No. 7-seeded Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer upset No. 2-seeded Stonehill, 1-0, in a Northeast 10 Championship Quarterfinal matchup at Skyhawk Field in Easton, Mass. The win sends the Owls to the NE10 Semifinals for the first time since 2008.

Amanda Dustin (Marshfield, Mass.) scored the Owls' only goal in Southern's victory off a free kick from just inside midfield in the 76th minute of play. Allie Smith (Danbury, Conn.) recorded her seventh shutout of the season with a nine-save performance against the Skyhawks. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dustin's goal came with just under 14 minutes to play. The junior center-back took a free kick from approximately 40-yards away and banged her shot home off the cross bar to give the Owls the late lead. 
NOTES
  • Dustin's goal was the first of her career. 
  • Smith is now tied for the NE10 lead with seven shutouts to date. 
  • The Owls win against Stonehill was their first in the postseason in program history.
  • The Owls last trip to the NE10 semifinals came in 2008 when they defeated Southern New Hampshire.
