Women's Soccer Falls In NE10 Championship Game, 3-2, To Saint Rose

Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. –  The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team lost to Saint Rose, 3-2, in the 2019 Northeast 10 Tournament Championship Game in Albany, N.Y. A back-and-forth battled ended with a Golden Knights' goal with 10 seconds remaining in regulation.

Kaitlyn D'Amico and Paula Nunez both scored for the Owls, with D'Amico's standing as the game's first score before Nunez tied the game after the Owls trailed 2-1 late in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kaitlyn D'Amico gave the Owls an early lead with her sixth goal of the season in the 9th minute of play. Mikaela Magee collected the ball at midfield before moving it to Kelly Lamb along the sideline in front of the Owls bench. Lamb gave a pass to D'Amico in the box who slid a shot past Saint Rose goalkeeper Marika Laurendeau to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 54th minute, Saint Rose's Nina Predanich scored her 18th goal of the season, this one coming on a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. The ball appeared to be loose in the box, but the referee ruled that a collision in the box between a host of players was enough to award the Golden Knights. Allie Smith picked the correct corner, but couldn't corral the shot.
  • In the 60th minute, Olivia Boucher scored on a pass from Morgan Burchardt to give Saint Rose a 2-1 lead. Boucher received the ball at the top of the box before turning away from the goal and firing to the near-side post to give Saint Rose the advantage with just under 30 minutes to play.
  • With 15 minutes to go, the Owls drew a foul deep in Saint Rose territory. Paula Nunez blasted a shot from just outside the box that bent to the back post to tie the game at 2-2.

NOTES
  • D'Amico registered points in back-to-back games after assisting on Paula Nunez's game-winner against AIC in the Northeast 10 Semifinals.
  • D'Amico's goal was her team-leading sixth of the season, while she also pushed her season total to 14 points.
  • Magee's assist gave the Owls' midfielder her first point since Sept. 18 when she scored the game-winning goal against Adelphi.
  • Lamb's assist gave her three for the year, while it also stands as her first point since Oct. 22 against New Haven.
  • Nunez's goal was her third in the last four games, including a marker in back-to-back games. Nunez scored the game-tying goal with 37-seconds remaining in regulation that clinched the Owls a spot in the NE10 Tournament. She then scored the Owls' only goal in a 1-0 win against American International to send the Owls to the NE10 Championship.
