GREYHOUNDS ROLL INTO NEW HAVEN
The Southern Connecticut softball squad will play host to Assumption College on Sunday, March 24 for a pair of games. First pitch for game one is set to be thrown at 12 p.m. Assumption's Kayla Peabody will be the Greyhounds player to watch on Sunday as she leads the team in hits (20), batting average (.435), doubles (6) and RBI (10), while the Owls offense-generators have been led by:
  • Sara Buscetto - first in hits (15), batting average (.333) and tied for first in runs (5).
  • Julia Lener - second in hits (13), first in doubles (3)
  • Liz DeRosa - third in hits (11), first in RBI (8)

ALL-TIME VS. ASSUMPTION
  • The Greyhounds lead the all-time series against the Owls, 34-17.
  • These two squads last squared off on April 9, 2017 when the Greyhounds stole two games in extra innings from the Owls, 6-5 (10 innings) and 8-7 (10 innings).

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Owls dropped a pair of games to New Haven, 5-2 and 7-2 on March 20 at Pelz Field.
  • Freshman Jacqueline Dumont led the Owls offense as she went 2-for-6 on the day collecting her team-leading second home run of the year to go along with a double and three RBI. 
  • Junior Sara Buscetto and freshman Liz DeRosa snapped their hitting streaks. DeRosa's hitting streak was halted in game one, while Buscetto extended hers to six games before having it halted in game two.
  • Buscetto's stolen base in game two puts her at eight on the year. She is currently tied for fourth in stolen bases in the NE10.

EYE ON THE STATS
  • Sara Buscetto carried her effective play into this season as she is first in batting average with .323, first in hits with 15 including one triple and five runs scored. She is tied for fourth in the NE10 in stolen bases with eight on the year.
  • Liz DeRosa is turning heads in her first stretch of collegiate play. She is fourth in batting average with .282, while third in hits with 11, tied for second in doubles with two and leads the team in RBI with eight.
  • Jacqueline Dumont is one of two freshmen in the top ten in the NE10 in home runs.

LENER, DEROSA EARN NE10 WEEKLY HONORS
  • Junior Julia Lener and freshman Liz DeRosa opened her collegiate career with a .462 slugging percentage and .308 percentage, while adding five RBI, two doubles, two runs and two stolen bases in the Owls opening weekend. DeRosa went 7-for-15 for the Owls in four games this past weekend. She notched four RBI, two doubles and scored four runs, while sporting a .600 slugging percentage and a .467 hitting percentage. Lener weekly honor roll for their play during their trip to Myrtle Beach. NE10 earned a spot on the Feb. 18

PLAYERS TO WATCH
  • Sara Buscetto- led the team in hits (39), runs scored (29), RBI (20) and stolen bases (13) during the 2018 season. - 
  • Jazmyn Martinez - Led the team in games started (19), wins (6), complete games (11), innings pitched (127.1) and strikeouts (78).

IN THE NE10 PRESEASON RANKINGS
  • The Southern Connecticut State University softball team has been selected to finish fifth in the Southwest Division of the NE10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON
  • The Southern Connecticut State University softball team finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 11-31.
