SCSU Gymnastics Posts Season-Highs In Three Events At Penn State Quad Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, pa. – Southern Connecticut gymnastics finished fourth at the Penn State Quad Meet in University Park, Pa. Competing against three NCAA Division I programs in Penn State, University of Pennsylvania and LIU, the Owls totaled 187.575 points but posted season-best scores in the Vault, Beam and Floor exercises.
 
Penn State won the event with 196 points, followed by Penn at 194.9 and LIU at 194.150. Owls' freshman Abby Royer (Boyertown, Pa.) posted the team's highest score of the event with a 9.800 in the Floor Exercise. Hanna Zebdi (Ashburn, Va.) led the Owls on the Vault with a 9.7 and also scored a 9.65 on the Floor. Libby Allen (Franklin, Tenn.) scored a 9.600 on the Beam and a 9.775 on the Floor. Ciana Rios (Vineland, N.J.) had a team-high 9.7 on the Bars and Emily Kahl (Dallastown, Pa.) scored a 9.725 on the Beam.
 
FLOOR
Southern posted a season-best 48.600 on the Vault and featured six scores of 9.55-or-higher. Royer led the way with a 9.80, which was good for a tie of second place, and the Owls' highest overall score of the year. Allen was close behind with a 9.775, which tied for sixth. Freshman Ava Kelly (Long Island Beach, N.J.) scored a 9.725 while Erica Beyer (State College, Pa.) scored a 9.65.
 
VAULT
Zebdi's team-high 9.7 on the Vault tied her for 12th place overall. It also stands as the Owls' top score on the Vault this season. Lexi Bracher (Oakton, Va.) followed with a 9.500 while Kelly totaled 9.425.
 
BARS
Rios posted a top-10 score on the Bars as she tied for ninth place with a 9.700. Rios score in the event was also a season-best for the Owls. Shreya Munshi (Alpharetta, Ga.) was close behind at 9.625.
 
BEAM
Kahl scored a team, season-best 9.725 on the Beam for 13th place while Angel Lee (Chino Hills, Calif.) finished in 15th with a 9.675. Allen was right behind Lee with 9.600.
 
Southern returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 when it hosts Springfield at James Moore Field House at 1 p.m. The event is also Alumni Day for the Owls.
