Abby Royer Finishes Tied For 9th At NCAA Regional

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Southern Connecticut State University All-American Gymnast Abby Royer finished tied for 9th in the Floor Exercise of the first session of the 2026 NCAA Championship Regional in Lexington, Ky.

Competing with the University of Maryland in the Floor Exercise, Royer completed her routine tied for the top score in the rotation with a 9.85 and tied for fourth overall out of 28 NCAA Division I student-athletes in Session I. University of Missouri – which won Session I of the regional and will advance to the regional finals – placed five athletes in the top half of the event leader board.

Royer completes an incredible career at Southern Connecticut with one of the most decorated seasons in program history. The first gymnast since 1997 to qualify as an individual for the NCAA National Championships, Royer was named to the WCGA All-America First Team, WCGNIC All-America First Team, Gymnastics East Conference First Team and also a GEC Scholar-Athlete. She also became just the second SCSU gymnast to capture a GEC Event title when she won the Floor Exercise at this season's championship.

Statistically, Royer entered the competition with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.905 and averaged a 9.882 for the season. She broke the program record with a 9.95 on Jan. 17 and followed with the same score in the following meet. For the season, Royer never scored lower than a 9.80 at any meet and hit 9.9-or-higher in four of her 11 competitions.
