SCSU Gymnastics Tops RIC, Springfield

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut gymnastics defeated Rhode Island College and Springfield in a tri-meet at James Moore Field House. The Owls' score of 189.950 led all three teams, followed by Springfield at 187.125 and Rhode Island at 183.175.
 
The Owls posted season-best team scores in three of the four events, including a 47.700 in the Vault event, a 47.3750 in the Balance Beam event and a 47.050 in the Bars. Ciana Rios (Vineland, N.J.) set a team, season-high with a 9.800 on the bars in a career performance. Libby Allen (Franklin, Tenn.) scored in three events, with a second-place finish in the Floor Exercise highlighting her afternoon.
 
VAULT
Southern took three of the top five sports on the Vault, led by Hanna Zebdi (Ashburn, Va.) and Lexi Bracher (Oakton, Va.) tied for first place with a 9.700, each. Ava Kelley (Long Island Beach, N.J.) followed with a 9.550 for fifth place. Sidney Wilson (Woodbridge, Ill.), with a 9.400, and Allen, 9.350, rounded out the Owls' scoring.
 
UNEVEN PARALLEL BARS
Rios' top career score in the Bars event with a 9.800 while Hannah Stahlbrodt (Cicero, N.Y.) posted a 9.625 for third place. Sarah Ortiz (Middletown, N.Y.) finished sixth with a 9.275 while Kamryn Leinheiser (Burlington Township, N.J.) was close behind at 9.250. Jayci Jordan (Culleoka, Tenn.) also claimed ninth place with a 9.100.
 
BALANCE BEAM
Angel Lee (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Emiley Kahl (Dallastown, Pa.) led the Owls on the Balance Beam as Lee's 9.650 ranked second and Kahl's 9.575 was fourth. Allen scored a 9.450 for eight place, followed by Maria Damiano (Randolph, N.J.) and Abby Royer (Boyertown, Pa.) tied for ninth at 9.350.
 
FLOOR EXERCISE
Allen led the Owls on the Floor with a 9.675 for second play while Royer was tied for third at 9.650. Zebdi finished sixth with a 9.550, just ahead of Ava Boyd (Braintree, Mass.) in seventh at 9.500. Erica Beyer (State College, Pa.) rounded-out the Owls' scoring for the day with a 9.450.
 
UP NEXT
Southern is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 29 when it travels to Providence, R.I. to compete in a tri-meet hosted by Brown University featuring University of Bridgeport.
