SCSU Men's Soccer Welcomes Team IMPACT's Cole Kubicza

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut men's soccer head coach Kevin Anderson has announced the addition of Cole Kubicza to the Owls roster for the 2023-24 season. Cole joins the Owls through Team IMPACT's matching system with places children with disabilities with athletic programs. 



"The most amazing part about this story, is that what we gave, we've got back 100 fold," Anderson said. "The Kubicza family has just been a completely amazing addition to what we're doing. I think if we look and see what's going on in the world, we look at our sport as a vehicle to be kind, to show empathy and give love to other people. I think that's the message that we're trying to prevail." 

On Thursday, Oct. 12, Cole signed his Letter of Intent to join the Owls in a ceremony that included the Kubicza family as well as student-athletes and staff from the Southern Connecticut Athletic Department. Cole was presented with a warm welcome from Anderson and Owls sophomore Murphy Malone and received his Owls gear. As a team member, Cole will attend Owls practices, games, events, and more. 

Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,900 children with more than 600 colleges and universities in 48 states, reaching over 55,000 participating student athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
