SCSU Field Hockey Falls To Mercy, 5-1

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut field hockey lost to Mercy, 5-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. With the loss, the Owls' season ends with a record of 5-12 overall and 4-9 in the NE10 while Mercy improved to 8-9 overall and 7-6 in conference play.

Bridget Andros scored the Owls' only goal while Meghan Tillona had the assist. Andros' goal was her second of the season while Tillona, with nine goals for the year, picked up her first assist on the play.
With the Owls trailing, 2-0, after the first half, Andros converted ten minutes into the second half. Ruby Webb made a stop in the Owls defensive zone and moved it to Tori Geaglone. The Owls midfielder carried the ball up to midfield before dishing it to Mia Oliverio. Oliverio, challenged above the circle, fought through the defender, and chipped the ball ahead to Tillona who drew a defender and the goalkeeper before feeding Andros on the left post.

After Mercy scored to make it 3-1, the Owls had an opportunity midway through the fourth quarter. Tillona broke up an attempted clear by Mercy, drew a double team in the circle and then dropped a pass back to Oliverio who collected the ball and blasted a shot on the Knights' cage. The shot beat Mercy's goalie but found the opposite post and caromed to the opposite sideline. Natalie Fiato picked up the loose ball, dribbled through traffic and got a shot that hit the crossbar to deny the Owls again.

The loss to Mercy eliminated the Owls from the upcoming NE10 tournament. Geaglone finished the season with a team-best 12 goals, 29 points and five defensive saves. Tillona finished the year with nine goals and an assist for 19 points while Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti had six goals and eight assists for 20 points. Kyla Hart-Perron, Ruby Webb and Oliverio all had three assists for the season while Fiato totaled three goals and two assists for eight points.
