SCSU Men's Soccer Comes Back To Tie Post, 1-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's soccer saw a back-and-forth battle against Post end in a 1-1 tie in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup in Waterbury. With the draw, the Owls moved to 2-6-2 overall while Post went to 6-1-3 overall. 


 
"It's encouraging to see us put together two games against national ranked teams) where effort, commitment, understanding and execution were not negotiated by individuals within their games and for the team at large," head coach Kevin Anderson said. "That approach has taken place for the last 180 minutes. I may have taken us 179:30 to get the goal as a reward tonight but block shots, clearances, tackles won, group effort, team mentally are all rewards. You just need buy into them to receive the feeling. All the details matter!"
Matt Surette scored the lone goal for the Owls which was his first of the year while Jalen Jean picked up an assist to bring his season total to two, tying Zico Groenveld for the team lead.
 
After a scoreless first half, Post broke the scoring drought off a free kick as Manuel Rilova put the ball past Devin Juan which brought the score to 1-0.
 
As the game looked like it may be over in the final minute, Matt Surette proved that you can never count out the Owls. After Umberto Catale corralled the ball off a deflection, he found Jean on the sideline at the back corner of the field. Jean sent a cross towards the middle of the field, which met the head of Surette for the goal with 34 seconds left on the clock to tie the game.   
 
Southern is back in action when it takes on Saint Michael's college in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field on Friday Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.
