NEW HAVEN, Conn.
– Southern Connecticut women's indoor track & field leads with 80 points on the first day of The Art Kadish Elm City Challenge in the James Moore Field House. The Owls finished in the top spots of the events in the track portion and the field portion.
Pentathlon
Gillian Penna finished second overall in the Pentathlon with 2,831 points. Isabella Sorrentino finished fourth with 2,510 points while Yasielli Perez was fifth with 2,363 points.
55 Meter Hurdles
The Owls took the top two spots in the Pentathlon 55 Meter Hurdles, led by
Gillian Penna at 9.16 followed by freshman Yasielli Perez.
High Jump
Penna finished second in the High Jump event with a height of 1.48 meters.
Shot Put
In the shot put, freshman
Bella Sorrentino finished second with a distance of 10.78 meters while Penna finished fourth at 8.29 meters.
Long Jump
Penna led the Owls in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.66m which was good for fourth place.
800 Meters
Penna finished the 800 Meters with a time of 2:38.80 for second place.
Field Events
High Jump
Penna posted a height of 1.55m for fourth place.
Pole Vault
Owls sophomore
Maddie Hathorn won the Pole Vault event with a height of 2.95m.
Long Jump
Mackenzie Glenn long jumped a distance of 5.32 and came in fifth place while
Kisha Francois long jumped a distance of 5.55.
Shot Put
Belle Smith threw a distance of 10.64 and finished in the middle of the leaderboard in Women's Shot Put.
Track Events
40 Yard
Freshman
Hailey DeNucci won the 40 Yard Dash with a time of 5.66 while classmate
Serena Devine posted a time of 6.48.
55 Meters
After taking five of the six spots in the preliminary round of the 55 Meters, the Owls won the top four spots in the finals.
Ella Maclean won the event at 7.08 followed by
Kisha Francois at 7.28.
Dardielle Exantus was third at 7.36 followed by
Megan Swan at 7.40.
Jasmyn Bransford at 7.48 filled out the field.
55 Meter Hurdles
Patrice Mansfield finished second in the 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.67.
600 Meters
Leticia DoNascimento led the Owls in the 600 Meters with a time of 1:44.04 for second place, ahead of
Izzy Newbury in third at 1:48.11.
Southern continues action at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge on Saturday, Dec. 9 in the James Moore Field House.
