SCSU Gymnastics Breaks Vault Record, Ties Floor Mark At Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Southern Connecticut gymnastics scored a season-best 193.925 at the Temple Quad-Meet featuring Ursinus and Fisk in Philadelphia, Pa. In addition, the Owls tied a program record in the Floor event and hit season-highs in the Bars and Vault events.
 
The Owls broke the program Vault record with a 48.725, passing the mark of 48.575 it set at last year's GEC Championships, and tied the program record in the Floor event with a 49.025, matching the Southern Connecticut record at the 2018 ECAC Championships. In addition, Southern also set a new season-best in the Bars event with a 48.525.
 
Ciana Rios (Vineland, N.J.) had the Owls' highest score of the meet with a 9.850 in the Floor event, while also posting a 9.750 in the Bars event. Hanna Zebdi (Ashburn, Va.) posted a pair of 9.8's, in the Floor and Vault events while Hannah Stahlbrodt (Cicero, N.Y.) had a 9.725 on the Vault and Bars.
 
Floor Recap
The Owls' 49.025 as a team tied its program record that it set in 2018 at the ECAC Chamionships. The Owls four scores of 9.8 or higher in the event, led by Rios' career-best 9.850. Libby Allen (Franklin, Tenn.) was close behind at 9.825, followed by Alexa Melanson (Moncton, New Brunswick) and Zebdi at 9.8. Two-time GEC Newcomer of the Week Abby Royer (Boyertown, Pa.) posted a 9.75.
 
Bars Recap
Jayci Jordan (Culleoka, Tenn.) hit a career-best 9.800 in the Bars event to lead Southern Connecticut and finished tied for fourth place. Rios once-again posted one of the competition's top scores with a 9.750 followed by Stahlbrodt at 9.725 and Audrey Arnold (Kirkland, Wash.) with a season-best 9.650. Megan Workman (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) was the Owls' last scorer with a 9.600.
 
Vault Recap
Zebdi and Elena Bailey (Woodbridge, Va.) both put up matching 9.8 scores while Lexi Bracher (Oakton, Va.) was close behind at 9.75. Stahlbrodt followed with a 9.725 while Brianna Dorr (Hampton, N.J.) posted a 9.650.
 
Beam Recap
Melanson posted the Owls' top score on the Beam with a 9.725 followed by Angel Lee (Chino Hills, Calif.) with a 9.70.
