SCSU Women's Lacrosse Tops Hartford, 18-5

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse defeated University of Hartford, 18-5, in the Owls final non-conference matchup of the season. Southern improved to 8-6 overall while Hartford dropped to 6-5 in its season finale.

The Owls spread it around as 12 different players scored a point, with 10 scoring a goal. Bayleigh Takacs scored three times while adding two assists for a team-leading five points. Alexanda Ruel had two goals and an assist while Morgan Reilly and Kirsten McIntire each had three goals. Allie Palmer scored twice while Molly Kelly had two assists.

Hartford opened up the scoring just over three minutes into the game. The Owls didn't score until almost halfway through the first quarter when Takacs scored on a pass from Ruel to tie the game before McIntire scored less than a minute later to give the Owls a lead. In the closing minutes of the quarter, Liney White and Reilly both scored, with Takacs and Kelly Jagodzinski setting up both the goals, to counter a Hartford goal as the Owls took a 4-2 lead to the first break.

Reilly's goal was the first of seven unanswered goals through the first half as the Owls took a 10-2 lead into halftime. Reilly scored three times in the run, while McIntire, Ruel, Palmer and Takacs all scored as well. Kelly set up back-to-back goals to Reilly and Takacs.

Takacs and McIntire both scored in the third to give the Owls nine unanswered goals from the end of the first quarter to the beginning of the third while Southern held a 12-2 lead. After a Hartford goal, Brianna Shaw scored to push it back to a 10-goal lead before Ruel scored on a pass from Takacs to give Southern a 14-3 lead heading into the final quarter.

Abigail Nolan scored her first career goal :17 seconds into the frame to give Southern a 15-3 lead. Hartford countered with its fourth and fifth goals, with a marker by Alexa Alchimio sandwiched in between. Amelia Mansfield and Palmer scored inside the final four minutes to give the Owls the 18-5 win.

  • Takacs has now scored a goal in seven-straight games while also recording her sixth hat trick of the season and sixth game with five-or-more points.
  • Takac's 28 goals and 25 assists give her a career best 53 points for the year, with three games to play.
  • For her career, she has totaled 93 goals and 64 assists for 157 points, which ranks fifth all-time, behind teammate Karlie Rowe's 160 career points.
