NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse lost a hard-fought Northeast 10 Conference match to nationally ranked No. 24 Southern New Hampshire, 15-11. With the loss, Southern dropped to 7-5 overall and 3-5 in the NE10 while Southern New Hampshire improved to 7-4 and 3-4 in conference play.

SCSU Women's Lacrosse Highlights vs. SNHU (Apr. 8, 2023)

Karlie Rowe scored a game-high five goals while assisting on another for six points while Bayleigh Takacs totaled three goals and two assists for five points in the Owls' loss. Brianna Shaw had two goals and an assist as well as a team-best five draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Kelly Jagodzinski had two goals an assist.

In goal, freshman Caelan Connors had nine saves against the Penmen, including the 100th of the season. She stands at 107 for the year, which leads the NE10.

SNHU led after the first quarter, 5-1, after scoring four unanswered goals to open the game before Shaw got the Owls on the board. Shaw scored again to start the second quarter, followed by back-to-back goals by Rowe to cut SNHU's lead to 6-4. After SNHU got a goal back, Rowe scored for the third time before Takacs found the back of the net with :20 seconds to play in the half. Southern Connecticut trailed by a goal, 7-6, heading into the break.

That momentum carried into the second half as the Owls scored twice in the first three minutes to take an 8-7 lead. Rowe scored her fourth of the game while Takacs scored her second. The nationally-ranked Penmen put together a 5-1 run to end the third quarter with a 12-9 lead.

Rowe scored her fifth of the game to get the Owls within two goals, 12-10. After SNHU countered with 7:07 to play, Southern saw two goals taken off the board after a foul was called before a shot and a contested crease violation, that otherwise would have had Southern trailing, 13-11. Instead, SNHU scored twice more to take a 14-10 lead. Takacs added another goal with 4:22 to play before the Penmen scored the final goal of the game with 3:13 on the clock to seal the win.

Southern finds itself on the road for its next four games, beginning with a tilt in West Haven, Conn. against University of New Haven on Thursday, Apr. 13. They also travel to Hartford, Saint Rose and Le Moyne before completing the regular season at home on Saturday, Apr. 29 against Assumption, with Senior Day scheduled for the beginning of the game.
