SCSU Field Hockey Completes Comeback Behind Criscuolo's Two Goals In 2-1 Win Against STAC

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University field hockey came from behind to defeat St. Thomas Aquinas, 2-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. The Owls improved to 5-8 overall and 3-5 in the NE10 while STAC dropped to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Keana Criscuolo scored twice with both goals coming in the final 15 minutes after Southern trailed, 1-0, for three quarters. Criscuolo now has a team-high six goals for the year and has scored twice in two of her last three games. Taylor Leckey and Isabella Taylor both picked up assists.

Freshman goalkeeper Lydnsay Troisi improved to 3-2 with an eight-save performance against the Spartans. In addition to Troisi's play in the cage, McKenzie Fairfax came up with her team-leading second defensive save of the year on a timely play on a corner to keep the Spartans off the board.

STAC's Nicola Van Vuuren scored off a corner when she took a pass from Hailey Galison and sent a shot through traffic that got past a screened Troisi for the game's first tally.

Criscuolo's first goal of the game came off a rebound from a shot by Leckey in which Criscuolo picked up the loose ball and slid a shot between the pads of STAC's keeper with just under 13 minutes to play.
Four minutes later, it was Taylor redirected a pass to the front of the cage to Criscuolo who played the ball between the defenders legs and then slammed a shot to back of the Spartans' cage to give the Owls a one-goal lead with less than nine minutes to play.

Southern is back in action when it travels to Garden City, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 19 to take on Adelphi at 3 p.m. A win against the Panthers would move the Owls to within a half game of Adelphi for sixth place with four games to go in the regular season.
