NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut volleyball fell to Bentley University, 3-0, in an NE10 matchup in Pelz Gym on Friday night. The Falcons improved to an overall record of 13-4 and an NE10 record of 5-1, while the Owls dropped to an overall record of 3-16 and an NE10 record of 1-3.
Raegen Emery led the team in kills with nine,
Isabel Alvarez had seven and
Victoria Pascual added six kills. Pascual had a team-best of 12 digs, as
Jalie Miller recorded six and Alvarez had six of her own against the Falcons.Â
Emery had a team-best of two blocks, as
Sydney Bennett and Pascual also had a block. The trio of
Sarah Stark, Pascual and Emery all had a team-best of a service ace. For assists,
Madi Roar had 21 assists, while
Lily Miller had six and
Jasmine Johnson had one of her own.Â
In the first set, Bentley jumped to an early lead; however, Southern marked a comeback and took the lead over with four kills by Emery, two kills by Alvarez, a kill by Pascual and an ace by Stark. It was back and forth until the end of the set with the Owls getting within a point of Bentley but the Falcons held on to win the set, 25-22.
In the second set, Southern took a quick lead over Bentley, as the Falcons chased after the lead. Bentley tied Southern and took control halfway through. Once they had the lead, they continued to score and got the second set with a scoreline of 25-17. In the third set, Southern came back yet again and battled hard with the Falcons, with a series of tied scores and lead changes, Bentley hung on to their momentum to win the set, 25-22 and take the 3-0 match win.Â
The Owls will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 5:00 p.m. in Pelz Gym against Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action. On Tuesday, Oct. 29, Southern will play Franklin Pierce in Pelz Gym at 5:00 p.m. in an NE10 matchup.Â
