SCSU Volleyball Drops Close Match Against Pace

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut volleyball lost to Pace, 3-1, (17-25, 26-24, 18-25, 20-25) in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Pelz Gymnasium. With the loss, Southern dropped to 3-17 overall and 1-4 in the NE10 while Pace improved to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Raegen Emery led Southern with 10 kills while adding six digs. Sarah Stark had nine kills and seven digs while hitting a team-best .348. Sydney Bennett had seven kills, while hitting .333, and Madi Roar totaled a team-high 19 assists with six digs. Jalie Miller led the Owls with 16 digs.

After Pace took the first set, 25-17, the Owls claimed the second to tie up the match, 1-1. In the second frame, Sarah Stark, Isabel Alvarez and Julia Jaworowski all had three kills. After the two teams played to a 9-9 tie, Southern used a 9-4 run to take a 17-13 lead. Pace answered with a 5-2 run to pull within a point, 19-18, before both teams stood at 21. At 24-24, Southern keyed off an attack error and followed with a Stark kill to take the second match, 26-24.

Pace cruised to the third set win before finding themselves in a battle in the fourth set. Southern trailed early, 11-7, before putting tying it up at 11-11. With the game tied at 18-18, Pace used an 8-2 run to close out the set and the match.

Southern returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 29 when it hosts Franklin Pierce at 5 p.m. at Pelz Gymnasium.
