SCSU Volleyball Falls to University of New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut volleyball fell to Elm-City rival, University of New Haven, 3-0 in their Northeast-10 Conference opener on Tuesday night in Pelz Gymnasium. The Chargers improved to an overall record of 9-7 and an NE10 record of 1-0, while the Owls fell to an overall record of 2-14 and an NE10 record of 0-1. 

Raegen Emery led the team with 12 kills, Victoria Pascual had seven and Isabel Alvarez added five kills of her own. For assists, Madi Roar had a team-best of 14, as Lily Miller followed closely behind with 13 assists and Pascual had two. Jalie Miller had nine digs, Pascual had eight and Emery added seven digs against the Chargers.

Lily Miller had a team-best of two service aces, Jasmine Johnson and Emery both had an ace. The trio of Sarah Stark, Katie Bardak and Alvarez all had a block against New Haven. 

The Chargers took the first set, 25-15 in commanding fashion. However, in the second set, the Owls put up a tough fight as they got out to an early lead. New Haven came back to tie the score at 14-14, as from that point, they didn't stop their momentum and took the set, 25-19. In the final set, Southern Connecticut continued to fight hard to get their points but the Chargers held on to get the victory with a score of 25-16.

The Owls return to action on Friday, Oct. 11 at 6:00 p.m. against Assumption University in an NE10 matchup in Worcester, Mass. On Tuesday, Oct. 15, Southern will travel to Colchester, VT. to face NE10 opponent, Saint Michael's College at 5:00 p.m. The Owls come back home to Pelz Gym on Friday, Oct. 18 at 5:00 p.m. in an NE10 matchup against Bentley University.
