NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut gymnastics posted a new season-high score of 193.050 and finished in second place in the Tonry Invitational against Yale and Bridgeport. Yale finished in first place with a score of 195.125 and Bridgeport came in third place with a score of 192.650.
On the uneven bars, freshman
Gigi Mastellone had the highest score of the day for the Owls and a career-best score of 9.850 and came in first place. In the floor exercise, junior
Libby Allen posted a team-best score of 9.825 and finished in a tie for fourth place. On the vault, both freshman
Kylie Sitty and
Libby Allen recorded a team-best score of 9.700, as they both were tied for fifth place. On the balance beam, senior
Emiley Kahl had a team-best score of 9.700 and finished in a tie for fifth place. The highest scoring event for the Owls was the Floor Exercise, where they had a total score of 48.550.
FLOOR EXERCISE
Libby Allen posted a team-best score of 9.825 and finished in a tie for fourth place. Senior
Hanna Zebdi had a score of 9.775 and finished in a tie for ninth place. Freshman
Kylie Sitty recorded a score of 9.700 and came in 12
th place. Junior
Alexa Melanson and
Sofia Delgado Cotto had a score of 9.625, as they both finished in 14
th place. This was a career-best score for Delgado Cotto. The Owls finished with a total score of 48.550 in the floor exercise.
VAULT
Kylie Sitty and
Libby Allen posted a team-best score of 9.700, as they both finished in a tie for fifth place. Junior
Brianna Dorr and
Hanna Zebdi had a score of 9.650, in which they were tied for ninth place. Sophomore
Ava Kelly recorded a score of 9.625 and came in 15
th place. The Owls finished with a total score of 48.325 on the vault.
UNEVEN/PARALLEL BARS
Gigi Mastellone recorded a career-best score of 9.850 and finished in first place. Freshman
Sophia Ruecker had a career-best score of 9.775 and finished in a tie for third place. Senior
Audrey Arnold had a score of 9.650 and was tied for 10
th place.
Kylie Sitty and senior
Jayci Jordan posted a score of 9.600, as they were tied for 12
th place. This was a career-best score for Sitty. The Owls finished with a total score of 48.475 on the uneven/parallel bars.
BALANCE BEAM
Emiley Kahl had a team-best score of 9.700 and finished in a tie for fifth place. Freshman
Angelina Stanfa recorded a score of 9.625 and came in ninth place. Junior
Angel Lee posted a score of 9.600 and finished in 10
th place.
Alexa Melanson had a score of 9.475 and finished in a tie for 12
th place. The Owls had a total score of 47.700 on the balance beam.
The Owls return to action on Friday, February 16 at 6:00 p.m. in a quad meet against Temple, Bridgeport and Ursinius at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
