NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut gymnastics freshman Gigi Mastellone was named the Gymnastics East Conference Newcomer of the Week for Week Six, as announced by the GEC on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Mastellone had two impressive performances on the uneven bars in both meets this past weekend. Against Rhode Island and Springfield, she posted a score of 9.800 and came in first place, which helped the Owls get their first win of the season. The next day, against Yale and Bridgeport, Mastellone recorded a new career-best score of 9.850 and came in first place, which is the highest score posted for the Owls so far in the 2024 season.

The Owls return to action on Friday, Feb. 16 in Philadelphia, PA at 6:00 p.m. for the Ken Anderson Invitational at Temple University against Temple, Bridgeport and Ursinius.
