SCSU Baseball Tops Bentley, 10-2

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. – Southern Connecticut baseball came from behind to defeat Bentley, 10-2, in Lake Worth Beach, Fla. With the win, the Owls improved to 8-5 on the year while Bentley dropped to 10-5 on the season.

Jake Gruttadauria and Mike Talavera led the Owls' offense as both recorded three hits each while Gruttaduari drove in two runs and scored twice and Talavera drove in three runs. Chad Fedeli also collected three hits and scored scored twice while Billy Sullivan was 2-for-5 with three runs scored. Jack Drewry drove in two runs in the game. The Owls also saw a solid start by Jagger Duquette after he scattered eight hits over five innings while allowing two runs to improve to 1-1 on the year while Spencer Fox converted his second save of the year after holding the Falcons scoreless over four innings and allowing just three hits.

Southern got on the board first when Gruttadauria led off the top of the 3rd inning with a base hit before moving to second on Derrick Jagello's sacrifice. After Patrick Dillon and Chad Fedeli walked, Gruttadauria scored on a wild pitch. Bentley got the run back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Bentley made it 2-1 in the fifth. In the sixth, Sullivan doubled to lead off the inning and then scored on Talavera's single to center field. Talavera moved to third on Izaiah Walker's single to right before Gruttadauria drove in both runs with a two-run single that made it 4-2.

Southern tacked on two more runs in the seventh when Fedeli and Sullivan both singled to start the inning before Jack Drewry bunted both runners over. Talavera then drove a single to right to score both runs and give Southern a 6-2 lead. Drewry delivered in the eighth with a two-run single that scored Sullivan and Fedeli to make it 8-2. Dillon hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth and Fedeli drove home Jagello to give Southern the eight-run lead.

Southern returns to action when it faces Molloy on Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 11 a.m. at Lynn University.
