SCSU Baseball Split Doubleheader With Felician University

SCSU Baseball split a doubleheader against Felician University with a 15-5 loss and a 9-5 win bringing the Owls record to 10-6 on the season.
 
In game one the Owls would have four players take the mound with Mike Szturma getting the start. Brandon La Mazza, Tyshaun Diaz and Alec Erskine would all come in relief throughout the game.
 
The Owls would fall behind early with Felician jumping out to a 8-0 lead through the top of the first. Southern would get on the board with a Mike Talavera sacrifice fly that would score Billy Sullivan
 
Felician would tack on two runs in the fifth but the Owls would pick up four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Chad Fedeli would pick up an RBI single that would score Jake Gruttadauria and move Derick Jagello to second. Jagello would then score on a Billy Sullivan single that would then advance Fedeli into scoring position. With two outs Mike Talavera would get a two RBI single that would score Fedeli and Sullivan to bring the score to 10-5. The Bats would slow up for the Owls as they would remain scoreless through the last four innings eventually surrendering the 15-5 loss to Felician.

In the second game of the day the Owls would pull off the 9-5 victory with Steve Philips picking up the win on the mound for the Owls. 

Jack Drewry would get the Owls across the plate first with a two RBI single that would score both Chad Fedeli and Billy Sullivan in the first inning. Fedeli would then get a two RBI single of his own in the second, scoring both J Chacho and Devin Pelletier to make the Owls lead 5-0. Felician would pick up two runs of their own in the third inning with Jack Drewry hitting an RBI double, scoring Billy Sullivan. Followed by Izaiah Walker scoring Drewry with an RBI single to make the score 7-5.

Felician would hit a three run homer in the sixth to bring the game within two runs. However the Owls would close the door in the seven inning game with a Chad Fedeli RBI single and with Patrick Dilion scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning, bringing the final score to 9-5.
 
Southern's next matchup will be a rematch against Felician University for their last matchup before returning home to New Haven. The game will take place on Saturday, March 16th, at 11:00 AM at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL.
