BOCA RATON, Fla. – Southern Connecticut baseball closed it's Florida trip with a 2-1 win against Felician to improve to 11-7 for the year.
NCAA Division I transfer Jagger Duquette, who joined the Owls from Wagner, threw a gem against the Falcons, holding Felician to a single unearned run on four hits while striking out 11 in the complete game victory. Duquette improved to 2-1 on the year after a brilliant performance. At the dish, Jack Drewry was 2-for-3 and drove in both of the Owls' runs while Patrick Dillon scored both runs for Southern. Jake Gruttadauria also collected two hits.
Dillon reached on an error to lead off the game and then moved to second on a wild pitch. After Billy Sullivan worked a walk, Dillon stole third. Drewry then put the ball in play to score Dillon. Dillon led off the third with a single and advanced on a wild pitch. After Sullivan walked to put two runners on, Dillon scored from second on a single by Drewry.
Felician pestered Duquette through the first few innings before the graduate student settled in an retired 11 straight before Felician's Andrew DeAngelis tripled and then scored on an error for the Falcons only run of the game. Duquette gave up a lead-off single in the ninth and then retired the last three batters.
Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 19 when it hosts Assumption at The Ballpark at SCSU at 3 p.m. The Owls also host New Haven on Wednesday, Mar. 20, Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, Mar. 23 and Saint Anselm on Sunday, Mar. 24.
