SCSU Baseball Captures Thrilling Home Opening Win Against Assumption, 5-4

NEW HAVEN, Ct.—  The Owls would secure a thrilling win for their 2023-24 home opener against Assumption University, 5-4. The home win brings the owls record to 12-7.
 
Keegan Daigle would get the start on the mound for the Owls with Brandon Sparaco picking up the win in relief, with three innings pitched.
 
The Owls would strike first at the Ballpark at SCSU with a Mike Talavera sacrifice fly that would advance Billy Sullivan and score Chad Fedeli for the first run of the game. Assumption would match that run in the top of the sixth and the game would stay even until the bottom of the fourth. Derick Jagello would then hit a sacrifice fly that would score Izaiah Walker and give the Owls the 2-1 lead.
 
It would be late in the seventh where Assumption would grab the momentum, picking up two unearned runs off of an error to give them the 3-2 lead. They then would tack on an additional run in the eighth with a fielder's choice RBI single, giving the Greyhounds the two run lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.
 
Jake Chacho would come up huge for the Owls with a bases loaded double that would score three runs and give the Owls the 5-4 lead heading into the ninth inning.
 
Spencer Fox would  close the game out picking up his third save of the year, but not without some excitement. With runners on first and third and two outs he would seal the deal with the help of Jake Gruttadauria catching a line drive to right field, ending the game, and giving the Owls the 5-4 victory.
 
The Owls will take the diamond next on Wednesday, March 20th  at 3PM against the University of New Haven at The Ballpark at SCSU in New Haven, CT.
