SCSU Baseball Falls Short To New Haven, 11-9

Despite a terrific comeback SCSU Baseball falls to University of New Haven 11-9, bringing their record to 12-8 on the season.
 
Chad Fedeli who came in 2-0 would get the start on the mound for the Owls, typically at second base he showed his versatility by pitching and also batting second in the order. He would throw 5.2 innings leaving the game scoreless through the first three.
 
New Haven would get ahead early scoring their first run in the top of the fourth inning and would continue to keep their bats rolling. They would score 11 unanswered runs through the first 7.5 innings, hoping for the shutout.
 
The Owls however did not go out without a fight, having a monster eighth inning which included eight runs scored. Billy Sullivan would start the scoring, reaching on an RBI error that would score Derick Jagello. Jack Drewry would keep it going in the four spot drilling an RBI single to left that would advance Sullivan to second and score Chad Fedeli. Mike Talavera would then single to left advancing Drewry and Sullivan, loading the bases for Izaiah Walker. Walker would come to the plate and double to right center picking up two RBIs as both Drewry and Sullivan would score, making the score 11-5. Jake Gruttadauria would keep the bats hot with an RBI single of his own that would score Talavera and advance Walker to third. Patrick Dillon would get in on the action with an RBI single that would score Walker and advance Gruttadauria to third. Gruttadauria would then score on a passed ball before the Chargers would pick up the last out of the inning bringing the score to 11-8.
 
Tyshaun Diaz who came in to relieve late in the seventh would shut the Chargers out in the top of the inning and the Owls would tack on another run with a two out  Izaiah Walker RBI double that would score Mike Talavera cutting the lead to just two runs. The Owls however would not be able to keep the momentum going and would finish the game with the 11-9 loss.
 
Southerns next matchup will be a double header on Friday, March 22nd at 12:00PM at the Ballpark at SCSU in New Haven, CT.
