SCSU Drops High Scoring Game To Saint Rose, 19-14

Despite putting up 14 runs the Owls dropped a road conference game to the College of Saint Rose, 19-14. This loss brings the Owls record to 13-12 on the year with a conference record of 1-5. Steve Philips would get the loss on the mound for the Owls bringing his record to 2-4.  Offensively, Izaiah Walker would have a monster day at the plate with a game and career high five RBIs for the Owls.

Every inning of this high scoring match up would feature a run scored with The Golden Knights of Saint Rose jumping ahead to a 4-0 lead  through the first two innings of play. In the top of the third, Chad Fedeli would fly out to right, scoring Patrick Dillon and getting the Owls on the board. A Patrick Dillon double in the next inning would then score Jake Gruttadauria and bring the game to 4-2. St. Rose however would answer with three runs scored in the bottom half of the inning.

Izaiah Walker, Jake Gruttadauria, and Jake Chacho would all pick up ribbys in the top of the fifth inning cutting the Golden Knights lead back to two runs. However, like most of the game Saint Rose managed to keep extending that lead as they tacked on five additional runs in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the score to 13-5. Both teams would pick up three runs each in the sixth. The Owls runs would be knocked in by Walker and Gruttadauria.

St. Rose would score a lone run in the seventh, with the Owls then scoring four runs in the top of the eighth with Izaiah Walker and  Derrick Jagello both hitting 2RBI singles. As the Owls climbed back into it offensively, they would not be able to slow up Saint Rose defensively. They would score three more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Southern would cross the plate two more times thanks to a Mike Talavera RBI double and an Izaiah Walker RBI ground out, but it would not be enough to cut the lead, finishing with a final score of 19-14.

The Owls will look to return the favor with a double header against Saint Rose as their next matchup. The games will take place on Saturday, March 30th at 12PM in Albany, NY.
