Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

SCSU Women's Lacrosse Tops Bridgeport, 16-6

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse rolled to a non-conference win against University of Bridgeport, 16-6, at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improved to 2-2 while handing the Purple Knights their first loss of the season to drop to 3-1 on the season.

Jordan Fisher led the Owls with four goals while Anna Meserve also had a hat trick with three markers. Meserve also had three draw controls and two ground balls. Alexandra Ruel, Kirsten McIntire and Allie Palmer all scored twice while Savannah Feinberg and Abigail Nolan had a goal and an assist each. Morgan Reilly had two assists in the Owls' win while Maddox picked her first career point on an assist.

Defensively, Caelen Connors had four saves while sophomore Hannah Sommer made her collegiate debut inside the final seven minutes of the game in goal. Maggie Kallinich caused three turovers and led the Owls with four ground balls while Amelia Mansfield and Feinberg caused two turnovers each.



Southern jumped out to an early lead and never trailed. Feinberg and McIntire scored in the first two minutes before Bridgeport got on the board. Southern responded with six unanswered goals through the first five minutes of the second quarter to give Southern an 8-1 lead. McIntire scored her second of the game before Nolan got her first of the season. Fisher then scored twice before Mansfield gave the Owls the seven-goal lead.

After Bridgeport scored to make it 8-2, Southern increased it lead to 10 goals, 12-2, on two goals from Palmer before Ruel and Meserve got in on the action. Bridgeport scored late in the second quarter to pull within nine goals, 12-3.

Coming out of the half, Fisher scored her third of the game before Meserve gave Southern a 14-3 lead. The duo would add their final goals of the game to push the Owls' lead to 16-4 before Bridgeport scored twice in the last five minutes of the game.

Southern returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 8 when it hosts Georgian Court at Jess Dow Field at 1 p.m.
