NE10 Championship 8th-seed Southern Connecticut will take on 4th-seed Southern New Hampshire in the second game of the 2024 NE10 Championship Weekend bracket hosted by Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. on Thursday, May 2 at 2:30 p.m. The Owls advanced by virtue of a 13-3 win against #5 Franklin Pierce in the NE10 First Round.

The Owls All-Time In The NE10 Tournament
  • Southern enters its matchup against Southern New Hampshire with an all-time record of 24-16 in the NE10 tournament. 
  • This is the first meeting between SCSU and SNHU in the NE10 Championship tournament since 2022 when the Penmen pulled out a 1-0 win.
  • Southern has advanced to the NE10 Championship game three times, claiming the title twice in 2010 and 2011. 
First Round Recap (Highlights)
Southern Connecticut advanced to the second round of the NE10 Championship tournament by virtue of a 13-3 win at Franklin Pierce. The Owls exploded for a season-high 13 runs, as well as 14 hits, as they rolled against the home-team Ravens. 
Jessica Perucki Named NE10 Player of the Year
  • Southern Connecticut softball standout Jessica Perucki was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, as announced by the NE10 on Wednesday, May 1st.
  • In addition, Perucki was also named to the Northeast-10 Conference First Team, as a pitcher and as a utility player.
  • She was also named to the NE10 All-Defensive Team for the second straight season, after being the first NE10 pitcher named to the All-Defensive Team in 2023.
  • This is the third time that a Southern Connecticut player has been named NE10 Player of the Year, as Jacqueline Dumont was named conference Player of the Year in 2022 and Brittany Bucko was named Player of the Year in 2012.
  • This is the first time since 2021, that a player has been selected to the NE10 First Team in multiple positions.
  • In her career, she has thrown 507 strikeouts, 59 complete games, 34 wins and six saves, which put her in the top five of these categories all-time in SCSU Softball history.
  • Currently, she is seventh in NCAA Division II Softball with Earned Run Average (ERA) with .94.
  • Perucki posted a career-best 0.81 ERA in the circle this season, striking out 118 over 120.2 innings while holding opponents to a .179 batting average.  
  • At the plate, Perucki broke out with a .348 average, four homeruns and 17 RBI – all career highs.
  • In addition, she had an outstanding doubleheader against New Haven, where she picked up a win, a save and blasted two homeruns to help Southern Connecticut sweep their Elm-City rival.
  • Perucki helped the Owls advance to the second round of the NE10 Tournament, with a 13-3 upset over Franklin Pierce, as she allowed only three runs, six hits and threw three strikeouts in six innings on the mound while recording two hits, a run and a RBI at the plate. 
Owls Notes
  • Karley Austin was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team after being a constant in the Owls' lineup all season as a catcher and in the outfield.
  • Austin is second on the team with runs scored with 21, one of the team leaders in hits with 33, is second on the team with 179 putouts and has one of the team bests in stolen bases, with four stolen bases this year.
  • Austin is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, the longest for the Owls this season.
  • Rachel Miller enters the second round of the tournament batting .312 (39-125) with 10 doubles, a home run and 23 RBI with five stolen bases.
  • Miller leads the Owls in hits (39), doubles (10), RBI (23), multiple hit games (12), multiple RBI games (8) and slugging percentage (.432).
  • Emily Lange is hitting .295 (38-129) with a team-high 24 runs scored as well as 10 doubles, two triples and 15 RBI. Lange also leads the team with 21 walks and a .417 on-base percentage and is second to Miller with 10 multiple-hit games.
  • Dominique DeLutri enters Thursday hitting .283 (32-113) with a home run, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored and leads the team with eight stolen bases – in eight attempts.
  • Gabriella Festa checks in with a .274 (31-113) average with seven doubles, a home run and 18 RBI with 16 runs scored and is second in the Owls' lineup with 11 walks.
  • Nadia Cestari is hitting .250 (24-96) with 10 doubles, 12 runs scored and 10 RBI.
  • With a tournament-berth clinching win against St. Michael's, Ashley Lewis improved to 6-8 on the year and is 4-1 with a 1.09 ERA in her last six starts, all of which she has allowed two earned runs just once.
